With its charming countryside, peaceful atmosphere, and pure air, the French region of Burgundy is the ideal destination for those seeking to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It is known in particular for the famous Burgundy wine such as Chablis or Meursault, and its culinary delights. The historical city of Beaune, with its beautiful Hospice, is also worth seeing.

The friendly people and laid-back atmosphere make this the perfect relaxing getaway, and the beautiful landscapes are the perfect backdrop for leisure walks. France certainly has its share of beautiful places to visit, but perhaps none is as serene and inviting as Burgundy. 

What to Expect

The Burgundy self guided walking tour is done at a gentle pace. The itinerary is mostly on secondary roads and trails with very little traffic. You will be able to spend time at places of interest along the route. If leisure and relaxation are what you are seeking, and you enjoy casually strolling or cycling through beautiful pastures and vineyards while enjoying fine wine and delicious food, then Burgundy should be first on your travel itinerary.

Day 1Dijon

Arrival in DIJON, capital of Burgundy. This town, steeped in history, is its own outdoor museum. We invite you to explore the old city, the neighborhood of the Palais de Justice, and the beautiful Palais des Ducs et des Etats de Bourgogne.

Day 2Dijon, Marsannay Gevrey-Chambertin - Walking: 5-6 hrs / Dist: 20 kms

You continue exploring DIJON during the morning hours. There are several interesting museums to see, including the Archeological Museum, the Sacred Art Museum in Sainte Anne‘s Chapel, and an excellent museum that chronicles the life, costumes and cottage industries of Burgundy during the past centuries…

Day 3Gevrey Chambertin, Nuit Saint Georges - Walking: 4-5 hrs / Dist: 14 kms

Leaving the village of Gevrey, you will cross through the Grand Cru vineyards towards Morey Saint Denis. You will pass by the village of Chambolle Musigny, nestled at the beginning of a narrow valley, and head to one of the more famous sites of Burgundy, the majestic Château de Clos Vougeot.

Day 4Nuits Saint Georges, Beaune Walking : 4-6 hrs / Dist: 16, 18 or 20 kms

Today you will discover the last part of Côtes de Nuits and the Hautes Côtes de Nuits area in the different routes we propose..

Day 5Beaune

Visit of BEAUNE – A day’s visit of this city is easily justified. Explore the manifold old buildings, stroll through the narrow streets lined with beautiful homes, some of them dating back to the Renaissance period.

Day 6Beaune, Meursault - Walking : 4-6 hrs / Dist: 15 or 20 kms

You will leave Beaune by way of the LaBouzaise park or by la Montagne de Beaune . Then you will walk through the first PremiersCrus vineyards heading to Pommard…

Day 7Meursault, Puligny Montrachet - Walking : 5-6 hrs / Dist: 16 or 21 kms

Today you will discover the last part of Côtes de Nuits and the Hautes Côtes de Nuits area in the different routes we propose. Landscapes are delightful and you will enjoy beautiful views across the valleys…

Day8Puligny Montrachet

Tour ends after breakfast. Transfer by taxi to the Beaune rail station.
